One of the main things that hold a lot of people back is confidence.
When you have low self-confidence, you tend to avoid putting yourself out there. You hold yourself back from reaching your potential.
Friends and family members see how great you are, but for some reason you don’t see it. You’re overwhelmed by negative thoughts.
The good news is, you can become more confident — even if you’re never been a confident person. At first, you might feel way out of your comfort zone, but give it a shot. Once you get started, you’ll wonder why you ever doubted yourself.
Here are some sure-fire ways to build your confidence and give you the boost you need to get out there and start making money from your work-at-home skills.
Find the right fit for you
You need to find the most promising opportunity for you and take action to pursue it. There are lots of options out there, but you need to find a legitimate opportunity that fits your skills, passions, and personality.
Choosing something that doesn’t fit in well with your passions and personality will only leave you feeling less confident. If you choose something you’re good at and you enjoy, you’ll be interested in learning new skills in this area.
Skills not only give you a way to earn extra money, but they also give you confidence in your abilities.
Invest in yourself
You need to learn how to invest in yourself.
You need to commit to investing in yourself and your future.
This means not just choosing something because it worked for someone else, but finding something that’s a good fit for your skills and interests. It means continuing to level up your skills so you can improve your impact and income — and use your resources wisely.
At first, learning skills can seem intimidating because you haven’t mastered them yet. You can’t expect to feel confident in something you haven’t mastered. In the same way you won’t get traction without action, you won’t get confidence without mastery.
So many people stall out during the initial action steps of starting a work-at-home business because they lack confidence. Here’s the thing about confidence: It flourishes right along with your skills. If you don’t feel 100% confident in your skills, then don’t expect to have the confidence you need to market those skills.
On the other hand, if you do the work and commit to leveling up your skills — commit to learning — you’ll ooze confidence! Oh, and if you’re freaking out at the thought of marketing yourself right now, just remember that marketing is a skill you can learn just like everything else.
Practice makes progress
People who make money usually have something in common… They’ve mastered a skill.
Mastering a skill will give you the confidence to market your services. You’ll be comfortable advertising your skills in this area because you’ll know you’ve put the time and effort into learning how to do a great job.
Even if something scares you, do it. The only way to build confidence in anything is to do more of it. Setting small goals can help you make progress every day.
Keep in mind that the more you refine your skills, the more confident you’ll feel marketing yourself. If you’ve found yourself skipping the skills development part and your confidence is shaky at best, slow down.
Many of my proofreading students begin their course believing that all they really need to learn is how to market themselves. Once they get into the meat of the training, they’re often shocked at what they don’t know. It’s a slice of humble pie.
One way to ruin your reputation (and your confidence) is to offer services you don’t have the skills to offer. In some industries, like proofreading, this can be a huge blow to your business because people have high expectations of perfection.
I’m not saying you can’t learn on the job. You totally can! But just be wary of overpromising your skills to clients. It’s better to underpromise and overdeliver!
Don’t wait until you’re “ready”
Yes, “ready” is in quotes because ready — without quotes — is a myth. If you wait until you feel ready, you’ll never start.
If you refuse to get started because you’re waiting on that one thing you’re most passionate about, you’re waiting at the bus stop for what I like to call the ready bus. You’re just waiting, waiting, waiting.
My advice for people is to just get on a bus that’s moving and go, and then you can always jump off and get on another bus. If it doesn’t work out, at least you’re moving. But if you’re standing there waiting, then nothing’s going to happen.
Just do it already!
Our take
You won’t build your confidence simply by hoping you’ll become more confident someday. You need to make changes and push yourself out of your comfort zone. Follow the tips above and you’ll soon see your self-confidence soar!
