One objection a lot of people have to learning how to work from home is that it’s too overwhelming.
Once they figure out how many options there are for working from home, some of them shrink back and go from being excited to stressed out.
The key to overcoming the overwhelm is to just pick one thing and run with it. It might not be your forever choice, but it will get you off the starting block.
Once you’ve started, you can pivot and then learn and grow.
Cortney almost didn’t take any action after enrolling in Work-At-Home School because she had shiny object syndrome, but then she decided to just start — just focus on one thing — and that got the ball rolling!
The rest is history in the making…
Keep reading to find out how Cortney was able to increase her monthly income by almost 2.5 times!
Q: Hey, Cortney! Tell us a little about your background. What did your life look like before Work-At-Home School?
Before Work-At-Home School, I was a general and medical transcriber. I’d been transcribing from home since January 2008. I couldn’t seem to average more than $1,000 per month. I found Caitlin Pyle online at the end of 2017, and when she introduced the Summit in 2018, I was completely amazed at all the work that could be done from home. WAHS just opened up the way to a new adventure.
Q: A lot of people are amazed at how many opportunities there are to work from home that they never even considered before! What action(s) did you take as a result of being in Work-At-Home School?
At first, I didn’t take any action as a result of being in WAHS. I was too amazed at all the resources that Caitlin made available. For the first time, I had shiny object syndrome. I almost didn’t know which direction to take since all the speakers make everything look simple and doable.
Ultimately, as long as you’re willing to put in the work, everything IS simple and doable. However, once I focused in one direction, I just began to implement everything I was learning as I was learning it.
Q: That really is the key to success. Reading up about new skills is all very good, but if you don’t implement what you learn, you won’t see any progress. What was your favorite course or resource from Work-At-Home School and why?
My favorite course from WAHS is 30 days or less to VA success by Gina Horkey. A few decades back, I was an in-house administrative assistant for a few companies and I loved it. Now to find out that I could do similar tasks from home was wonderful. I liked how many different skills she teaches, all of which you can become specialized in or expand from those skills over to other skills that she doesn’t teach, but that can be learned over time, many times, while working for a client.
Note from Caitlin: The courses included in Work-At-Home School may change from year to year.
Q: Everything Gina teaches is pure GOLD! What was the most challenging part of getting started?
The most challenging part of getting started is the discipline needed to just buckle down and get the work done. I had to make a schedule for myself and do everything in my power to stick to it, despite distractions from friends, family, and even myself.
Q: We can be our own worst enemies sometimes! What is the most valuable thing you learned from taking Work-At-Home School?
The most valuable thing I’ve learned from taking WAHS is that anything is possible. You can make money doing things that you like, that other people do not wish to do or that are more difficult for them or they don’t have time to do.
Q: How long did it take you to find your first client? And how many clients do you have now?
I already had a client that I was working for when I began WAHS. In the school, I began a virtual assisting (VA) course. I began to see all the areas where my current client needed a VA. He became my first client. At one point I had eight clients I was virtually assisting. I have begun to pivot my offerings to be more tech-based, so I currently have two tech clients, but I’m looking for more.
Here’s what one of Cortney’s happy clients has to say!
Q: That’s awesome that you were able to upsell your current client! How long did it take you to recoup the cost of the course?
It took approximately three to four months for me to recoup the cost of the course.
Q: Would you recommend Work-At-Home School? Is it worth the money?
I would completely recommend WAHS. It is definitely worth the money. Honestly, I’m not sure if any one person can devour all the knowledge and experience that is given in WAHS. It’s delightful how much information is packed in the school.
Quite honestly, once I became a VA, that next year I beat out my income goal. Before I couldn’t seem to break my $1,000 per month average. That very year, my average shot up to more than $2,400 every month.
I’m SO glad that I found Caitlin Pyle and Work-At-Home School. I can’t see how anyone could regret enrolling. It’s worth it. It’s like the vocational schools of yesteryear, only better because it’s online and you can take the courses at your own convenience.
Q: Wow! You were able to increase your earnings by almost 2.5 times! I have no doubt you’ll achieve whatever goals you set for yourself next. What does your life look like now?
Now I have pivoted once again to be more of a tech VA and a website developer. I love that WAHS has shown me all the possibilities that are out here. As long as a person is willing to put in the work, they can learn anything and then help anyone.
